Review GST and QST recorded on Quebec customer invoices

Review Quebec invoice tax reports by period, rate, and registration number. Check GST/QST source invoices and separate billed tax from expense-side tax claims.

A Quebec invoice review needs more than one combined “sales tax” number. GST and QST can have different registration references, and the accountant needs to see which recorded amount belongs to each tax. Just Invoice's accountant report separates saved taxes by code, rate, and registration number.

The report helps inspect what was billed on included invoices. It does not calculate a Quebec return, evaluate purchase-side credits, or decide whether every transaction was taxed correctly. Use it to find sources and questions that the accountant reviews in the firm's own process.

Verify one ordinary taxable example

For a $1,000 taxable selling price with the ordinary applicable Quebec rates, GST at 5% is $50 and QST at 9.975% is $99.75. The total is $1,149.75. QST is calculated on the selling price excluding GST, not on $1,050. Revenu Québec's taxable-supply guidance is the official reference for those rates.

That arithmetic example assumes the taxes apply. Registration, supply type, and other facts still need review. A correct multiplication cannot validate an inappropriate rate or an incorrect tax registration number.

Check separate report groups

FieldReview question
Tax codeIs this GST, QST, or another recorded tax?
RateDoes the source invoice show the expected rate?
Registration numberWhich business or registration issued it?
Taxable amountWhat saved invoice base supports this group?
Tax amountCan source invoices explain the recorded total?

Do not merge rows with different registrations simply because the tax label matches. If a business changed registration details or operates more than one issuing business, identify the source group before making any consolidation in working papers.

Compare PDFs and the CSV

Select the agreed invoice-date range, inspect the summary, and open representative PDFs. Export the complete-period CSV rather than relying on only the currently visible invoice page. Keep the unmodified export and any professional adjustments in separate files.

The report excludes drafts and estimates. It is not a completeness guarantee for sales handled outside Just Invoice. Ask the owner about other systems, unusual invoices, and corrections made after an earlier export.

Keep purchase taxes and remittances separate

Receipt files may support the accountant's purchase review, but they do not automatically create input tax credits or input tax refunds. Likewise, payments to Revenu Québec are separate evidence from customer invoice taxes. Provide those documents through the firm's agreed channels.

The tax charged versus remitted guide explains the boundaries. Use the multiple-registration checklist when the source groups need extra attention.

Keep a reference to the exact invoices behind an unexpected rate. This lets the accountant inspect the source documents instead of trying to diagnose a tax label from an aggregate total.

Does the report show how much QST I must pay?

It shows recorded invoice taxes, not a completed net-tax or remittance calculation. Your accountant reviews the broader records and applicable method.

Can I combine GST and QST for a quick estimate?

Keep the separate source amounts visible for review. A single combined figure hides distinctions the accountant may need.
