Give your accountant access without sharing your password
Invite your accountant to your Just Invoice file without sharing a password. Understand consent, read access, private notes, and how to revoke the connection.
Lire cette page en françaisYou can let an accountant read your invoices and receipts while keeping your own Just Invoice account. The connection is an explicit authorization, not a password-sharing arrangement. Both sides keep their identities, and the accountant sees your file through their own workspace.
This is useful when your accountant needs source documents at year-end or during a regular review. It does not grant government representation rights, access to your bank, or permission to manage every part of your business. Decide that scope separately before assuming one invitation covers all financial services.
Prepare before sending an invitation
Confirm the accountant's email address through a communication channel you already trust. A misspelled address creates an unusable invitation; an unexpected address deserves a second check. Make sure your own account email is verified, then open the accountant-access area and choose to invite your accountant.
Explain what you intend to share. For example: “Please review my customer invoices and purchase receipts for the previous calendar year.” Let the accountant know whether you already pay for your subscription. They do not need to buy sponsored capacity simply to access a customer-paid account.
Complete the two-sided connection
The invitation is tied to the intended email address. The accountant signs in with that identity, reviews the invitation, and accepts it. If they do not yet have an accountant workspace, they can set one up as part of the process. Until acceptance, the invitation does not provide access to your file.
Invitations expire and can be cancelled. If the link no longer works, check the recipient address and issue a fresh invitation through the application. Do not solve a failed invitation by emailing your password or leaving your own session open for another person.
Understand the permissions
Your accountant can browse receipts, download source files and annual receipt packages, open invoice PDFs, and review invoice-tax reports. They can save their own private receipt notes and review status. They cannot use that scoped access to upload, edit, or delete your business documents, or change your subscription.
You still provide purchase dates and descriptions and make corrections to customer documents. If the accountant notices a date mistake, agree on the correction and make it in your own account. Private notes are not customer messages, so ask how review questions will be communicated.
End access when appropriate
You can revoke the connection from the access screen. Future requests through that grant are denied. Your invoices and receipts remain yours; revocation does not delete them. Copies previously downloaded by the accountant cannot be pulled back automatically, so agree on handling and retention through your engagement terms.
If the accountant pays for your seat, revoking sponsored access also ends that source of subscription entitlement. Plan your own subscription before relying on continued premium access. Read the sponsored-seat guide for that model.
Can I invite more than one accountant?
Separate authorized firms can have client-paid access. Each firm's private notes remain separate. Sponsored billing has its own capacity and sponsorship rules; do not confuse multiple readers with multiple paying sponsors.
What should I do before changing accountants?
Export the documents you need, agree on the transition, and revoke the previous connection. Follow the accountant-change checklist.
