What must be included on a Canadian invoice
- Your business name and contact information
- Your client's name and contact information
- A unique invoice number
- Invoice date
- Description of services or products
- Total amount before tax
- Applicable taxes (GST, HST, or provincial taxes)
- Total amount payable
If you are registered for GST/HST, you must also include your GST/HST registration number.

You cannot legally collect GST, HST, or QST unless you are registered.

- Register for QST if you operate in Quebec
- Once registered, you must collect taxes, remit them to the government, and file returns on your reporting schedule.

Do I need to charge GST in Canada?
You only need to charge GST/HST if you are registered. Small businesses under the threshold may not need to register.
What is the small supplier threshold?
If your taxable supplies do not exceed $30,000 in a single calendar quarter or over four consecutive calendar quarters, you may not be required to register for GST/HST.
Can I send invoices without taxes?
Yes. If you are not registered, you should not include GST/HST.
